Hello everyone, my name is Miss Brooklynn Weisenbach!
I grew up in the small town of Batesville, Indiana, where I lived all my life. On June 3rd, 2017 I graduated from Batesville High School with high academic honors. I am currently an undergraduate student at Indiana University studying Secondary Life Science/Biology Education. I am also currently working towards a minor in Counseling. My preferred teaching grade would be seventh, but I would enjoy working with and teaching students from grades 6-12. My passion for teaching began when I was a little 5 year old helping my mom grade papers and decorate her classroom. As I grew up, I've had wondrous opportunities to teach Biology lessons about fossils and alleles to numerous ninth grade classrooms in my hometown. I am so excited to begin teaching my future kiddos about what I love, Biology. When I not busy with all things Biology, I love to go for runs, bake yummy desserts, spend quality time with my family and friends, write, and play my guitar.
Pedagogical Beliefs: As a teacher, I believe it is my responsibility to foster a love of learning and a love of life into each and every one of my students. By the end of the year, my students will not only be more eager to gain knowledge, they will value themselves and grow into mature young adults. Also, as a teacher, I believe students need to feel safe and accepted in the classroom. I plan to ensure my classroom is a safe zone that students will be able to feel welcomed and cared for. I also want them to be able to feel they can express their thoughts during discussion time without judgment. Finally, I believe that as a teacher, it is important for me to form a relationship with the parents of my students. Constant communication through email and open hours will allow me to be easily accessible to parents if they need me for anything or if I need to express information to them.
Technology Views: To keep up with the technological world we live in today, I believe in the utilization of technology when appropriate. I hope the school that hires me is a 1:1 computing school. If they are not, I would be willing to discuss with the corporation my views as to why they should slowly start embedding technologies such as laptops or iPads into their schools. I believe a successful teacher or a successful school is one who keeps up with the current times. When it comes to how much I plan to use technology, it depends on what type of lesson I am teaching. Sometimes, technology is a wonderful way to express ideas across to students because it becomes more engaging and fun. For example, when I teach my students about animal and plant cells, I plan to utilize helpful online simulations that allow the students to dive deeper into those cells. My school corporation growing up allowed students K-12 to have a technology device with them. So, through my own experience of what a 1:1 classroom looks like and functions like, I have formulated new, innovative projects involving the study of life that I am eager to share with my future students.
